Matt was born in Cape Town South Africa and started surfing at the age of 12. He has risen up through the ranks of the WCT, ASP, WQS and ACT surfing tours and is considered by many to be one of the top surfers in the world. Matt won the Teenage Rampage contest and the Billabong Junior championship Event. He has also surfed in 15 Below and The Path surfing movies.
